Catholic Studies is an interdisciplinary inquiry into the intellectual tradition, history and culture, both "high" and popular, of the Catholic Christian tradition. While the field of study includes religious questions and theological issues, it primarily follows a "cultural studies" model.

Students will explore the Church’s contributions to religious, cultural, and intellectual debates over the past two thousand years.

This program examines the Catholic Church’s teachings, traditions, and cultural roles, with a particular focus on its place in modern American society. Students will gain insight into the Church’s ongoing influence from its beginnings to its current expressions in the U.S.

Engage in Interdisciplinary Study of Catholicism

Catholic Studies offers an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the Catholic tradition through history, philosophy, literature, theology, and the arts. Students will study the Church's ethos, identity, and mission as they intersect with various academic fields and societal issues.
