Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ will honor Philip J. Lane, PhD, P’10, former associate professor and chair of the economics department, with the Distinguished Faculty/Staff Administrator Award during this year’s Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆAwards Dinner on Wednesday, April 12 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

One of Fairfield’s most beloved professors, Associate Professor Phil Lane, PhD, P '10 taught economics for 40 years until his retirement in 2022. His students consistently rated him as “awesome” and “hilarious.”

In addition to his regular teaching schedule, Dr. Lane taught in the summer program at the National School of Banking (NSB) in what is now the University’s Media Center. In 2000, the NSB honored him for those years of service with the Father McGrath Award. He was a mentor and faculty member with the Ignatian Residential College for 15 years, participating in retreats, guiding students during monthly meetings and through the Examen, and helping them build community with one other.

In honor of Dr. Lane's tremendous contributions to the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆcommunity, Robert ’08 and Shelby (Mayor ’09) Morton are establishing an endowment scholarship fund called The Robert and Shelby Morton Scholarship in Honor of Phil Lane.
