Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ junior golfer Steve Burak (North Easton, Mass.) made program history Monday night when he officially earned a berth in the NCAA Men's Golf Tournament.  Burak, the first Stag golfer to earn an NCAA Championship berth, will play as an individual at the University Club of Baton Rouge in Baton Rouge, La. The three-round, 54-hole event will be played May 16-18.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Steve and takes our golf program to the national level for the first time,” said 14 th year head coach Len Roberto . “He put together a tremendous performance at the conference championship and I look forward to seeing him compete at the NCAA Regional.  I am extremely proud of Steve and am excited about next week.”

Burak earned an automatic berth by winning the McLeod Trophy, for top individual score, at the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship.  He shot a 54-hole score of 208, minus-eight, to win the crown by five strokes.  Burak, the first Stag to win the McLeod Trophy in 16 years, set a conference scoring mark of 208 and is the first in league history to card two rounds of 60 (69-71-68) in a single championship.

It is a great honor and feels great to be the first Stag to reach the NCAA Tournament,” said Burak.  “All the hard work paid off and I can't wait to go represent our school and hopefully put up some good numbers.”

The University Club is a 7,700 yard par 72 golf course created under the watchful eye of PGA Champion David Toms and LSU Alumni Jim Lipe.  It is the home course of LSU Golf and winds through beautiful Louisiana Wetlands with stunning views.

There are six NCAA Regional sites with 81 teams and 45 individual players competing for berths in the NCAA Championship, May 28-June 2 at The Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.  The top-five teams advance to play for a national title while the individual champion also earns a bid to the final tournament.
