Grand opening planned for FAME
On Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 2 p.m., a grand opening ceremony celebrating the launch of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ Accelerator & Mentoring Enterprise (FAME) will be held at the new FAME Workspace, located in downtown Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆat 1499 Post Road, behind the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ Bookstore.
FAME’s first three client companies will be announced at the festivities. These budding entrepreneurs and future business owners will share their ideas, and what led them to become a part of this unique business incubator program that aims to foster local and state economic growth. The campus community is welcome to attend.
FAME is a collaboration between Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ, Kleban Properties, and the Town of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆEconomic Development Department. Expected to join Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ President Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J., at the ceremony are Catherine Smith, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development; Michael Tetreau, First Selectman of the Town of Fairfield; Donald E. Gibson, Ph.D., dean of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ’s Dolan School of Business; Ken Kleban, owner of Kleban Properties; and other business leaders and officials.
The incubator will offer innovators the tools they need – from guidance to funding to prime downtown office space – to turn their business ideas into realities. Mentoring from the Dolan School of Business and the School of Engineering faculty, university alumni, and leaders from the area's robust business community will be a key component.
Ultimately, FAME seeks to be the gateway through which early stage and developing entrepreneurial ventures can access valuable expertise, resources, and networks in order to move forward as sustainable enterprises based in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆCounty. It positions itself as the first contact support facility for either for profit or nonprofit enterprises.
The FAME Workspace - a 1,300 square foot facility that features open, collaborative spaces, meeting rooms and cubicles - can be accessed from the back of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ Bookstore parking garage off of Sherman Street; drive up the ramp to the second floor parking area.
