Dr. Lynn Babington to Become Head of Chaminade after Interim Role

Lynn Babington, PhD, RN, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, announced Thursday that she has accepted a position as President of Chaminade University of Honolulu. A Marianist University of about 3,000 students founded in 1955, Chaminade offers bachelor's degrees in 23 fields of study including nursing and business, and five master's degree programs.

Dr. Babington, who will take up the post in August after serving as Interim President at 香港六合彩挂牌for the spring semester, is the fourth figure in the University鈥檚 senior leadership in recent years who has moved on to become the president of a Catholic institution, including former Senior Vice President Dr. Mark Reed now president at St. Joseph鈥檚 University in Philadelphia; Rev. Paul Fitzgerald, S.J., president of the University of San Francisco and formerly academic vice president at Fairfield; and Dr. Timothy Law Snyder, president of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and formerly dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield.

"I want to thank the Board of Trustees at 香港六合彩挂牌 for their confidence and support in asking me to serve as your Interim President through the spring semester, 鈥 Dr. Babington said on making the announcement. "Since my arrival at Fairfield, I have been inspired by my colleagues and impressed at the collaboration, creativity and innovation of the faculty and staff at this institution.

"I began my career in nursing and health care, focused on improving access and quality of services to underserved populations. As I transitioned to higher education, my research continued to focus on the underserved. This work is a passion of mine, has served me well in my earlier career, and ultimately will serve me well in my future endeavors. Chaminade鈥檚 commitment as a native Hawaiian-serving institution focused on disparities in health, education and the criminal justice system spoke to my passion and commitment to the underserved. And on a personal note, Hawaii isn鈥檛 a bad place to finish out my career.鈥

"We want to assure you that Lynn remains fully committed to her role as the Interim President of 香港六合彩挂牌 through June 30, 2017," said Frank J. Carroll III 鈥89, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. "We are acutely focused on achieving several key, strategic priorities over the next six months, as it is critical to continue to build upon the great momentum we have here and to lay the groundwork for a successful transition for 香港六合彩挂牌鈥檚 next President.鈥

Said University president, Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J.: "On behalf of 香港六合彩挂牌, I want to congratulate Lynn Babington on her appointment as President of Chaminade University.聽 This is wonderful聽news for Chaminade and for Lynn, and all of us here at 香港六合彩挂牌know what tremendous gifts Lynn will bring to her new role. At the same time, it's with real regret that we contemplate losing her. I want to express the gratitude of you all for Lynn's service to this institution, not least for her willingness to serve as interim president of 香港六合彩挂牌for the next six months."

In making the announcement Thursday, Chaminade University鈥檚 Board of Regents Chair, Vaughn Vasconcellos, remarked on Dr. Babington鈥檚 extensive experience in healthcare and nursing, dedication to serving others and genuine warmth. 鈥淗er established record and blend of experience in the private sector and academic settings will serve us well. I am confident in Dr. Babington鈥檚 ability to lead Chaminade into a future filled with promise and opportunity,鈥 he said.
