Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆRising at $120 Million. Spring Events on the Horizon

The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆRising campaign has raised over $120 million to date and continues to bolster University pride. , the most ambitious fundraising effort in the University’s history, was launched this past fall with a celebratory dinner, alumni and family weekend, events for students, and a tour of alumni gatherings in New York City, Chicago, Hartford, Washington, D.C., and Boston.

The goal of the campaign is to raise $160 million by 2017 — funds that will be used for a variety of University priorities, but primarily to increase the endowment for student financial aid and faculty chairs; infrastructure projects like a new facility for nursing and health sciences and renovation to the Leslie C. Quick Recreation Center; and for the development of new programs.

The alumni tours this past fall in New York, Chicago, and elsewhere were great successes, and more are planned for the spring, in California, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

“It was great to take the University on the road and allow alumni who may not get to campus very often to hear everything that’s going on,” said Jessica Colligan ’03, director of regional engagements for Alumni Relations. “This is an exciting time for Fairfield.”

Rev. Charles Allen, S.J., University chaplain and special assistant to the President, attended the launch dinner this fall and said his favorite moment was when Trustee John Meditz ’70 spoke about why he gives back to Fairfield.  “Having known John for twenty-years, I was very moved to hear of the depth of his personal feelings for this University.”

In past years, fundraising campaigns have played a significant role in Fairfield’s growth. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ 25 years ago, the University’s first campaign, The Campaign for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ , provided the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola, the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts and the property that would become the Dolan campus. In September 2000, the University launched Our Promise: The Campaign for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ , through which facilities, programming were also expanded and the endowment more than doubled. The current campaign comes at a time when Fairfield’s profile continues to rise.

“Personally, I love to see the increased pride that it brings to our students, faculty, alumni and staff,” Fr. Allen said. “Having attended a number of much older and larger universities before coming to Fairfield, I am delighted to see this very young Jesuit institution catching up with those other institutions of higher learning that have been around a lot longer than we have.”
