A Kid Like Jake is a powerful theatrical production that focuses on themes such as parenthood, gender, class and acceptance. The play centers on Alex and Greg, a married couple whose son is a candidate for some of Manhattan鈥檚 most prestigious kindergarten programs. When his passion for Cinderella and playing dress-up starts to raise concern over his eligibility for these programs, Alex and Greg are faced with a difficult decision in doing what they think is best for their son.

鈥淚 cannot wait to present this production to the community,鈥 said director Tori Schuchmann 鈥16. 鈥淭he play itself leaves you grappling with the questions that present themselves when raising a child, and displays the honest realities that exist in the social and academic worlds we live in.鈥

Rounding out the cast of this entirely student-run production are Molly Gregory 鈥16, Jessie Lizotte 鈥18, Brendan McNamara 鈥17, and Grace Schiller 鈥17. Assisting Schuchmann聽 are Nick Solimini 鈥16 as stage manager, Kaylee Moran 鈥18 as assistant stage manager, Brendan McNamara 鈥17 as scenic designer and producer, Aubrey Sierer 鈥16 as costume designer, Alex Mongillo 鈥16 as lighting designer, Kelly Sheridan 鈥18 as technical director, and Robbie Schwartz 鈥16, who composed original music for the show.

This production is made possible by a generous grant from the Jamie A. Hulley Arts Foundation, a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization that 鈥減rovides educational and career development opportunities in the arts.鈥
