Rabbi Michael J. Cook to Deliver 10th Annual Jewish-Christian Engagement Lecture

On Wednesday March 16, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., Rabbi Michael J. Cook will deliver the 10 th Annual Jewish-Christian Engagement Lecture titled 鈥淕ospel Dynamics: When the Jewish Jesus Isn't Enough鈥 in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room. This lecture is free and open to the public.

The lecture is partly based on his book Modern Jews Engage the New Testament, and will discuss the role of Gospel Dynamics. Rabbi Cook鈥檚 lecture will focus on Gospel Dynamics, a technique used by Gospel editors who use Jesus鈥 figure to solve problems of their day. 鈥淒elaying the historical Jesus to the end of the learning process removes him from harms later perpetrated against Jews in his name," says Cook, "and advances a proven method attracting even lay Jews dissuaded for almost two millennia from Gospel study and discussion of Jesus.鈥

Rabbi Cook is the Sol & Arlene Bronstein Professor of Judeo-Christian Studies at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, and is the only rabbi in North America with a Full-Professorial Chair in New Testament. He has keynoted 215 Institutes for Christian Clergy and delivered 235 academic papers at universities, seminaries, conferences, and art museums, in addition to several hundred Scholar-in-Residences presentations at North American Synagogues and in Europe. Additionally, he was one of seven scholars selected to assess the accuracy of the film 鈥淧assion of the Christ鈥 in 2003.

The lecture is co-sponsored by 香港六合彩挂牌鈥檚 Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies and the Center for Catholic Studies.

Reservations are requested for the lecture. Please email bennettcenter@fairfield.edu or call 203-254-4000, ext. 2066.
