, which is free for the University community, allows users to have two-way, real-time communication with the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Students, faculty, and staff have the ability to submit real-time tips — texts, photos, videos, and location information — anonymously through the app to DPS, which monitors messages 24/7 in its dispatch center.

“We are pleased to enter into a partnership with LiveSafe,” said Todd Pelazza, director of Public Safety. “This is another tool in our focus to keep our community safer.”

Sending tips from the touch of a button allows community members to virtually connect with public safety and access important University information. When a call or message is sent through the app, DPS will be able to track the user’s location, even if submitted anonymously, which will allow for faster emergency response time.

SafeWalk, a peer-to-peer virtual escort feature of the LiveSafe app, allows individuals to invite three friends, family members, or colleagues to virtually escort and track their location on a real-time map. The feature works anywhere on-and off-campus.

"The new safety app is perfect for a night owl like myself," stated Alicia Phaneuf ’19. "Sometimes I walk back to my apartment between midnight and 2 a.m. Even though the sidewalks are lit with street lamps, it can still be a scary walk if I'm heading back from the library with no one else around. LiveSafe allows me to text my roommate or other friends who are still awake to watch me walk from the library to my apartment to make sure I arrive safely."

All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to download the free app. LiveSafe is available through the app store and compatible for Apple and Android phones.
