Hosted by the Center for Catholic Studies, Jamie Manson will explore how the women’s ordination movement is about so much more than simply admitting women into the Catholic priesthood.

The Center for Catholic Studies at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ will welcome writer and women's rights advocate Jamie Manson to present the 27th Annual Christopher J. Mooney, S.J., Lecture in Theology, Religion, and Society at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4. Register for this free virtual event at .

Few issues in the Church stir as much controversy as the ordination of women to the Roman Catholic priesthood. In a lecture titled “Why Ordaining Women Is Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ More Than Making Women Priests” Manson will propose that this issue is not so much about admitting women to the priesthood as it is a way to break down the gender inequality that is at the root of women's disproportionate suffering worldwide.

Jamie Manson is a longtime columnist and books editor at the National Catholic Reporter. She received her master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School, where she studied Catholic theology and sexual ethics. She is editor of Changing the Questions: Explorations in Christian Ethics, a collection of writings by Mercy Sr. Margaret Farley (Orbis, 2015). She is a three-time winner of the Religion News Writers Association's award for Commentary of the Year. Her activism on behalf of women in the Church garnered her the Theresa Kane Award for Women of Courage and Vision.

The 27th Annual Christopher J. Mooney, S.J., Lecture in Theology, Religion, and Society, “Why Ordaining Women Is Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ More Than Making Women Priests,” is free and open to the public. It will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom webinar. To to attend, please visit the Center for Catholic Studies webpage at fairfield.edu/cs.
