Dolan’s team of five students will compete against 15 other teams from across the country in a case simulation at Deloitte University in Westlake, Texas, in January.
“I am very proud of our team because we are all sophomores who had not yet taken a tax class,” said team captain Victoria Apostolico ’25. “We spent endless hours each week learning and researching the material to prepare for the presentation. Our team created a bond, offered each other constructive criticism, and shared tactics with one another that allowed us to win overall. I was honored to be able to participate in such an event and I am so excited to go to Texas with my teammates, professor, and advisor.”
Dolan’s team will compete in the National Case Competition in January against 15 other teams at Deloitte University, Deloitte’s leadership center in Westlake, Tex. At the competition, students will be given a more sophisticated, real-world tax case that simulates how tax professionals engage with their clients while working with their Deloitte professional advisors. Students will be asked to analyze the case, make recommendations, and defend those recommendations during a question and answer session.
“I am extremely proud of our first-ever all-sophomore team,” said Dolan faculty advisor Ahmed Ebrahim, PhD, associate professor of accounting. “I tell the students from the beginning not to worry about the technical material, that will be learned, but to focus on the presentation and how to act as if they are working with real clients.”
