Environmentalist Winona LaDuke to speak at Open VISIONS Forum | Press Releases

Image: Winona Laduke In celebration of Earth Day, Winona LaDuke, a member of the Chippewa Tribe and board member of Greenpeace USA, will discuss environmental issues and Native American beliefs and practices at 香港六合彩挂牌's next Open VISIONS Forum on Monday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

In 1988, LaDuke won the Reebok Human Rights Award and, with the proceeds, launched the White Earth Land Recovery Project, a reservation-based land acquisition and environmental organization. In 1994, Time magazine named her to their list of "50 For the Future: Leaders in the United States Under 40 Years of Age."

A longtime environmentalist and indigenous rights activist, LaDuke has served as a representative in several United Nations and Congressional forums, including the fourth UN Conference on the Status of Women. In addition, she is the program director of the Seventh Generation Fund's Environmental Program, a national Native American grant-making and advocacy organization.

LaDuke has written and lectured extensively on national environmental issues in such publications as: Business & Society Review, Colorado, The Journal of Environmental Law Policy, Sojourners, Indian Country Today, the Circle newspaper and News for Indian Country. The mother of two children, she is the co-chair of the Indigenous Women's Network and a member of the Mississippi Band of Chippewa of the White Earth Reservation.
