Surging Stags Earn Statement Win Over Villanova at Mahoney Arena

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ Women’s Basketball made an early season statement with a 74-71 win over Villanova this past Sunday, Dec. 8, on campus at the Leo D. Mahoney Arena. Meghan Andersen ’27 – last season’s MAAC Rookie of the Year – scored 22 points in the victory over the Big East visitors.

The Stags have followed up on last season’s historic campaign – which included the program’s first-ever national ranking and a 31-2 final record – with a 6-2 start to the 2024-25 season. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆhas won its last five contests, a streak that included two Top 100 wins in Sunday’s victory over the Wildcats as well as a Nov. 27 triumph at Wake Forest of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

During the streak, Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis eclipsed the 50-win mark in just her third season at the helm. The 2023-24 Kay Yow National Coach of the Year is currently 52-19 (.732) as the leader of the Stags.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆWomen’s Basketball concludes the non-conference schedule this Sunday, Dec. 15 with a visit to Big East foe St. John’s. The Red Storm will be the fourth Top 100 opponent on the Stags’ non-league slate.

Conference play begins the following Saturday, Dec. 21 at Mahoney Arena against Mount St. Mary’s at 2 p.m.
