Designed for in-service teachers, the bilingual education programs prepare educators to teach grade-level academic curriculum in a language other than English.

What You'll Learn and Do

Teachers seeking a degree can enroll in one of two programs:

Bilingual Leadership in English Acquisition Pedagogy (33 credits) or Bilingual Education Sixth-Year Certificate (SYC) of Advanced Study.

The Bilingual Education programs offer in-service teachers:

Cross-endorsement only in elementary bilingual education (18 credits) or Cross-endorsement only in secondary bilingual education (18 credits).

Take part in experiential learning.

Fairfield's programs benefit from being located near K-12 schools in our partner districts (Bridgeport, Danbury, Greenwich, Norwalk, Stamford, and Stratford) with long-established TESOL and bilingual education programs.

Prepare for the future.

The bilingual cross-endorsements prepare elementary and secondary teachers to teach grade-level academic curriculum in a language other than English.

Courses include topics such as, bilingualism, the role of culture in language acquisition, theories of learning, second language methods of teaching, curriculum and materials development, linguistics, and assessment of English language learners.
